There are approximately 10 million full-time researchers in the world. More or less, they represent a mere 0.1% of the world population. And absolutely all of them spend countless hours trying to do one thing: Innovation. In one way or another, they are all attempting to discover new knowledge or new insights to solve old or new problems or to better understand old or new problems. Sometimes researchers are trying to gain a better understanding of a problem rather than trying to solve it. So, the two key questions are: Why should they care at all about obscure journals? And, What can they do with them to improve their innovation efforts?

International Journal of Molecular Sciences (ISSN 1422-0067; CODEN: IJMCFK; ISSN 1661-6596 for printed edition) is an international peer-reviewed open access journal providing an advanced forum for biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, molecular biophysics, molecular medicine, and all aspects of molecular research in chemistry, and is published semimonthly online by MDPI. The Australian Society of Plant Scientists (ASPS), Epigenetics Society, European Calcium Society (ECS), European Chitin Society (EUCHIS), Spanish Society for Cell Biology (SEBC) and Signal Transduction Society (STS) are affiliated with IJMS and their members receive a discount on the article processing charges.

  • Open Access—free for readers, with article processing charges (APC) paid by authors or their institutions.
  • High Visibility: indexed by the Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science), MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus and other databases.
  • Rapid Publication: manuscripts are peer-reviewed and a first decision provided to authors approximately 14.2 days after submission; acceptance to publication is undertaken in 2.5 days (median values for papers published in this journal in the second half of 2020).
